Service Description
The Maternity Service offers supportive care for healthy women with uncomplicated pregnancies, from the first antenatal visit, to support in the first weeks at home.
Our approach promotes pregnancy and childbirth as a normal healthy life event.
Our Maternity Unit is located at Bacchus Marsh Hospital: Grant Street, Bacchus Marsh.
The friendly and professional team includes Midwives, Obstetricians, Paediatricians, Allied Health and support staff. The hospital has 24 hour Obstetric and Anaesthetic staff available. There is a Lactation Consultant on the unit 2 days a week facilitating Breastfeeding and referral to community services as needed.
Within the maternity unit there is a level 3 Special Care Nursery caring for babies from 34 weeks. This is recent addition to our unit, which reduces the need for babies and families to be separated in the event that a baby requires a nursery admission.
The unit currently has private birthing rooms with option to utilise a bath for water immersion during labour and private antenatal/postnatal rooms with shared ensuite.
After the birth of your baby you can expect to stay in hospital for 24 to 48 hours following a vaginal birth, or 48- 72 hours following a caesarean birth. The length of stay will depend on the wellbeing of you and your baby.
Partners are encouraged to remain with you throughout the entirety of your stay to provide support and benefit from the time with the midwives to learn baby care and settling techniques.
