Service Description The Men’s Family Violence (MFV) Program is a program that aims to improve the safety of children, women, and other affected family members by providing interventions for men using family violence. Specifically, the program offers a men’s behaviour change group sessions, individual case management sessions for men, and case support sessions for adult affected family members, which is referred to as ‘Family Safety Advocacy’ (FSA). We do not work with children directly, but where children are involved, we attempt to provide/make appropriate referrals where possible.

MBCP group: The group program is a 21-week course that offers psychoeducation on a range of family violence related topics. The group program invites men using family violence to consider ways they can change their thinking, choices and actions related to family violence. Group sessions are held in the evening:

  • 5:30pm-7:30pm in Melton on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesdays
  • 6-8pm in Footscray on Thursdays
Case management: is a 1-on-1 service that aims to assist men using family violence in accessing practical supports for issues such as mental health, homelessness, financial difficulties, alcohol, and drugs, and legal. Case management aims to increase the safety of affected family violence by reducing the person using violence’s risk factors. This service includes family violence specifical counselling and psychoeducation. Case management does not replace a Men’s Behaviour Change Program group.

FSA support: involves assisting affected family members access practical supports that increase their safety, such as mental health, housing, financial, and legal. This service includes family violence specifical counselling and psychoeducation.
Interpreters can be used in 1-on-1 sessions but not in groups.
Eligibility Residents of Brimbank-Melton and Western Melbourne Local Government Areas. Our program can only assist affected family members if the man using family violence is engaged into our program. Men entering our program must first go through a phone and face-to-face assessments.
Access hours Contact the Referral and Appointment Service, Monday to Friday, 9:00am to 5:00pm. Men’s group programmes operate after hours.
Referral process Self-referral, Agency Referral, or through the Orange Doors.
Cost to client Men’s program assessment:
  • Face-to-face Assessment: $40 if employed, $20 unemployed/concession.
Group program:
  • Group sessions: $20 per session if employed, $10 unemployed/concession.
Case management:
  • No cost.
FSA support:
  • No cost.
