Healthy Western Health
Western Health workplace and community health initiatives are coordinated by the Health Promotion Team. The Healthy Western Health project aims to support staff health and promote inclusion and accessibility for community members engaging with the service.
2021 Current projects:
Rainbow Tick project
The Health Promotion Team are working on a project to improve accessibility to our health service for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, intersex and questioning (LGBTIQ) community members. This project aims to progress the organisation through achieving the Rainbow Tick accreditation and create a safer, more inclusive service for our diverse community. Due to the impacts of COVID-19 some of this work had to be placed on hold, and project progress has been paused while undergoing amalgamation with Western Health.
What we have achieved so far:
- LGBTI Culturally Inclusive Practice professional development session delivered to all Managers and Executive staff in 2021
- LGBTI Cultural Sensitivity and Trans and Gender Diverse training rolled out to staff in 2020-21
- Health Promotion Staff completion of HOW2 training delivered by La Trobe University and Rainbow Health Victoria in 2019-20
- A Program Logic, Project Plan, Consumer Engagement Plan, Workforce Development Plan and Training Calendar have been developed
- The Terms of Reference for the internal Rainbow Tick Project Working Group has been drafted and there are plans to run a series of external LGBTIQ focus groups. These initiatives are on hold due to COVID-19 restrictions and internal prioritisation in response to the COVID-19 pandemic
- Rainbow Tick newsletter promoted to staff in 2019-20 (put on hold due to pandemic clashes)
- Recognition of dates of significance
- Audit of the health service against the Rainbow Tick standards, including organisation wide staff survey
- Rainbow Tick established as standing agenda item on Diversity Committee meetings
- Signage displayed at each site promoting and inclusive health service
- Individualised work with internal teams
- Pronoun badges distributed to staff and inclusivity resources promoted on the staff intranet
